Mating

Mating is a critical period for your herd, with many factors influencing reproductive success. Our comprehensive mating consultations are designed to help you lower your empty rate and improve overall productivity. These consultations can include various services tailored to your needs, such as body condition scoring, heat detection, trace element analysis, pre-mating blood testing, metrichecking, and programs for non-cycling cows and synchrony.

Key Services Offered

Pre-Mating Blood Testing:

  • Importance: Vital trace elements play a crucial role in successful mating and early lactation.

  • Timing: Testing should be conducted 4 weeks prior to mating to ensure trace elements are within optimal ranges, allowing time to correct any deficiencies.

Metrichecking:

  • Purpose: To detect endometritis (infection of the uterine endometrium), which can progress to metritis (infection of deeper uterine layers) if untreated.

  • Impact: Cows with endometritis and metritis exhibit poorer reproductive performance.

  • Treatment: Often involves the infusion of antibiotics into the uterus to address the infection and improve reproductive outcomes. Systemic treatment may be required for metritis.

Non-Cycling Cow and Synchrony Programs:

  • Non-Cycling Cow Programs:

    • Timing: Most effective when initiated at the start of mating.

    • Benefits: Increases the number of days in milk, enhancing overall productivity.

    • Common Method: CIDR or Ovsync programmes are the most widely used.

  • Synchrony Programs:

    • Application: Suitable for both heifers and cows.

    • Objective: Helps compact calving spreads for cycling animals, improving herd management.
